Hi Iris,

No mistake -- this 1896 footage has been available online for a while (on youtube since 2010). Freres Lumieres was a production company by that time, with a catalog of several hundred titles (most around or under 1 minute long), of which only a few dozen were produced or shot by the redoubtable freres themselves; so not sure who was actually behind the camera. What's truly amazing about it is the dynamic, high level artistry of editing. It's really like a time machine, you can almost smell the fumes from the train and everything is about movement and energy, as opposed to the more typically orientalist stills they took (FL were geniuses in capturing lengthy and repetitive motion and famously had a thing for trains. אני לא יודעת אם זו טעות, או שהאחים לומייר צילמו בשני מועדים שונים בארץ. לי ידוע על סרט שהם צילמו ב-1898 כאשר הקיסר הגרמני וילהלם II הגיע לביקור. הסרט מלווה את הביקור, תחילה בנמל יפו, בשוק וברחובות בדרך לתחנת הרכבת, בנסיעה ברכבת מיפו לירושלים וביקור הקיסר בירושלים עצמה, כולל תמונות רבות מהאתרים השונים בירושלים ואנשים ברחובותיה. נדמה לי שהוידיאו שעלה באתר אלכסון מבוסס על קטעים מהסרט ההוא, מ-1898.

בזמנו, הטלויזיה החינוכית הפיקה סרט באורך של כ-15 דקות מצילומי האחים לומייר באותו ביקור, במסגרת "אוצר הסרטים הישנים". המפיק היה יוסי הלחמי. הסרט הוקרן כמה פעמים אבל כבר שנים רבות שאינו מוקרן.
