Mr. Melamed will read from his new book Son of My Land
There will be Q and A, and some light refreshments.
The presentation will be in English.
About the author:
Sagi Melamed is Vice President for External Relations & Development at the Max Stern Yezreel Valley College. Since graduating from Harvard University with an MA in Middle Eastern Studies, Sagi has focused his work on strengthening the economic and social fabric of the Galilee. Sagi lives in the Hoshaya community in the Galilee. Sagi is the Founder and Chief Instructor (4th Dan Black Belt) of the Hoshaya Shotokan Karate Club, an IDF Captain (res.), and a board member of Budo for Peace.
Born on Kibbutz Ramat Yochanan to a family of founders of the Kibbutz Movement and of the State, Sagi is a trenchant observer of life in Israel. His commentaries and lectures discuss the challenges, joys and absurdities of Israeli life, as well as the ongoing struggle to find common ground and a shared future among the different communities in Israel.
Sagi has become very active in the Harvard Club of Israel and has been instrumental in planning club events of recent years.
His book of selected essays was published in Hebrew in 2012 with the title Benartzi and was translated to English as Son of My Land in 2013. Sagi presents a lively and intriguing overview of some of the pointed questions about Israel. With his unique style, befitting an Ivy league-educated native-born Israeli, Sagi addresses the questions: where is Israel heading now, and are the Chosen People and the Promised Land truly fulfilling their promise?
