• - President of the State Defense Council between March 2014 and March 2017. This is the state agency in charge of all the cases brought against the Republic of Chile.
• - Undersecretary of Justice of Chile between 2012 and 2013, and acting Minister of Justice of Chile between November 2013 and March 2014. In this capacity he had to deal with the most diverse political and legal problems since the under secretary is the head of all the services under the supervision of the Ministry of Justice.
• - Was the Chilean delegate in Geneva to speak in the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Human Rights before the UN (2014)
• - Represented Chile before the International Court of Justice for the international dispute between Chile and Bolivia, regarding the Silala River as an international watercourse case.

• - Led the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts appointed by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and the Government of President Enrique Peña Nieto from Mexico, to investigate the case of the 43 missing students in Ayotzinapa.
• - Litigated before the International Criminal Court, including in the case against Dominic Ongwen, represented 2605 victims of the armed conflict in northern Uganda. He is the only Chilean that has litigated before the ICC.
• - Nominated by The Group of Latin America and the Caribbean to integrate the panel of five world experts that advises the Executive Committee of the Assembly of States Parties of the International Criminal Court to elect the next Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court.
• - Appointed as an Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in order to determine if Extrajudicial Killings, Torture, Arbitrary Detention and or Enforced disappearance have occurred in Venezuela from 2014 until 2020.
• - Was counsel of international justice at Human Rights Watch doing a comparative study on universal jurisdiction.

 

 

Mr. Daniel Hasson Kalkstein (Associate Attorney)

• - Represented the Supreme Court at inter-institutional roundtables sponsored by the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights of Chile in an effort to create public policy initiatives to aid incarcerated individuals’ access to justice. (2017)
• - Analyzed and drafted report regarding to passive extradition and jurisprudence, among others. (2016)
• - Researched and drafted legal memoranda for on international, constitutional and criminal law for the President and Supreme Court judges. (2015-2018)

 

As to our hourly fees they are as follows:

Partners hourly fee is 350 US dollars

Associate hourly fee is 150 US dollars.

We don´t use paralegals.

Any expenses related to legal notifications, official taking depositions, and travel costs are excluded of this fee.

Further to our meeting, if your firm is interested in pursuing the work discussed, please submit a written proposal highlighting the firm's experience – as well as the relevant attorneys' particular experience – in the fields most relevant to the representation of the State of Israel (such as Chilean and international criminal law and procedure, sovereign and official immunities and procedure, and public international law).

The proposal should also detail each relevant partner, associate, and paralegal or other staff person's standard hourly fee, as well as any discounts you may choose to offer for services provided to the State of Israel. Additionally, the proposal should detail any added fees or charges that the firm intends to include in its invoices, if any (i.e., administrative costs, travel expenses, etc.).

Regarding next steps, once we receive all of the relevant proposals we will submit them to the committee in charge of the Ministry of Justice's tender processes, and will await their final determination. This process can take several weeks and even months. Once we receive the committee's decision, we will let you know.
