Dear Rahel and Ilias,

I know that from ILO side it is Mr. Jean-Marie Kagabo, from the Special Action Programme to combat Forced Labour, Tel. + 41 22 799 73 08, Skype: kagabo.jean.marie, Email: kagabo@ilo.org who deals with the issue. He might be able to suggest other international experts.

There are a number of experts acknowledged in the UNODC publication "TRANSNATIONAL ORGANIZED CRIME IN THE FISHING INDUSTRY - Focus on: Trafficking in Persons, Smuggling of Migrants, Illicit Drugs Trafficking" but I don't really know which expert contributed to which field of crime (http://www.unodc.org/documents/human-trafficking/Issue_Paper_-_TOC_in_the_Fishing_Industry.pdf). Paola Monzini  is mentioned as an independent expert. She has worked with us on TIP and SOM research, so maybe she could also be contacted. Her email address is (or at least has been once) p.monzini@gmail.com.

Good luck with this initiative!

Silke

Dear Ilias and Silke,

I see that Alexia has already gone on maternity leave. Do you have any idea who could help us with this?
Yours,
Rahel

Dear Alexia,
I hope you are well as is the little one not yet born.

I have started to work in the Ministry of Justice of Israel once again. My colleague, Dr. Merav Shmueli, has informed me that the E.U. has consented to give us funding to bring to Israel an international expert on the fishing industry in the context of trafficking and severe exploitation in this area. This – in the context of a seminar on trafficking in the fishing industry which will include prevention, prosecution and protection of victims.

Dr. Shmueli approached Ms. Eve de Conens about this matter several months ago. However, she is unable to attend.

I wondered if you could refer us to other international experts who we could approach, preferably with their email and phone details. I remember that the ILO published a survey and naturally UNODC too has published a report. If you do not have this information, perhaps you could refer us to someone who might have it?

As we say in Israel, (literally) – I seek your welfare – or in more prosaic terms – Best regards.
Yours,
Rahel Gershuni
