Dear Vikki and Jennifer,

Thank you for this information and for your efforts.

At this stage we cannot commit to the continuation of this initiative. The main reason has to do with changes in our unit's staff (Dana is leaving the unit, I am ending my term as Acting Coordinator – at the moment it is unclear who will be able to lead this project, and what the priorities of the unit are going to be).

Also, I feel that more work is required in terms of the contents of the seminar (we did not feel that the case study that you developed is very relevant for what the prosecutors here are dealing with).

I am happy to keep in touch and to let you know if and how we can proceed, as soon as things here become clearer. In the meantime, please do not continue your discussions of technical issues with Felicity.

All best wishes,

Merav,

Dear Merav and Dana,

We hope that everyone is safe and doing well today. In order to include a greater number of participants, we are communicating with Felicity regarding technological capabilities and capacity. As soon as we can determine this, we can set another date for the session. In addition, we may modify the materials to accommodate for the additional participants and probably extend the session to 120 minutes, if technology allows. What are your thoughts on a longer session?

Ideally, from the US, we will include several prosecutors, a researcher, law enforcement, a survivor/victim service provider, but, again, that depends on timing and technology.

Thank you for your continued working relationship with AEquitas. We truly value this mutual learning opportunity.

Vikki

Dear Merav and Dana,

I agree that this is the best solution. We are thinking of you and hoping that you remain safe. When we get in the office tomorrow, we will work to identify a new date and strategize to identify technology that can accommodate all of the participants. We will be in touch soon.

All the best,

Jennifer

Dear Vikki and Jennifer,

After consulting with the prosecutors, we decided to postpone the video conference scheduled for tomorrow.

As you know, the situation in Israel is very problematic these days, and some of the prosecutors had to make much effort in order to travel to Jerusalem. They were expecting to have a dialogue with practicing prosecutors who work on similar cases. They all understood that this was the main purpose of the discussion. It would be problematic to have them all travel in such a time for a discussion that may not be productive.

Under these circumstances, we all feel that it is best to postpone the discussion.

We are now leaving the office, so we can stay in touch via email in the next few days.

Best,

Merav

Dear Merav,

Yes, there are several prosecutors who wanted to be involved in the session. They were very much looking forward to participating in this shared learning experience. Due to technical limitations with the State Department, however, the numbers were limited and then they were unable to link up to the technology because they would have had to travel to off-site locations (and there were complications associated with those locations and the timing of the session). We adjusted for this by consulting with prosecutors from across the country who contributed case files, barriers encountered, multi-discliplinary/trauma-informed/holistic response strategies, trial strategies, and more. We are prepared to discuss these cases throughout the session, with the permission of those prosecutors and police. We also have our own in-house experience with these cases, as our attorneys are former violence-against-women prosecutors who collectively have prosecuted hundreds if not thousands of cases.

I would be happy to talk this through more. Do you want me to call you today, Merav?

Thank you,

Vikki

Dear Vikki,

I must say that this is problematic and disappointing. We were expecting a discussion with American prosecutors who are involved  in relevant cases. This was supposed to be a mutual learning experience. This is how we "marketed" the seminar to the Israeli prosecutors and also to our colleagues from the US Embassy. As far as I understood, that was the main issue in this initiative.

I will have to speak with Dalia and Raheli and get back to you. We may have to postpone the seminar in order to avoid embarrassment.

Best,

Merav

Good morning, Merav,

That is terrific. I am scheduled to call Dalia in about 10 minutes. The U.S. attendees include only Charlie and me, as there were limitations with the State Department technology and time frame.

Thank you again, and we'll see you tomorrow!

Dear Vikky,

Thank you.

Following your communication with Dalia, I wanted to let you know that the seminar will take place tomorrow, as planned. Cochav will attend it as well (we spoke with her).

I am now reading the materials and will email you soon.

Best,

Merav

Hello Merav, Dalia, and Dana,

Attached please find the final materials for the session. Thank you so much for your patience this week as we have finalized the documents!

The first attachment is the complete packet; it contains all documents for the session. The second attachment is simply an extra copy of the PowerPoint slides in an enlarged size in case the smaller handout in the main packet is too difficult to read.

With apologies, there are two corrections that we would like to make in the fact pattern:

(1) The shelter options should be Beit Hashanti and ELEM.

(2) We just learned that apartment numbers in Israel are numbered consecutively without letters. Thus, the apartment number should be 4, and those down the hall should perhaps be 5 and 6.

If there are any other changes you would like us to make to materials prior to Monday's session, or anything that you would like to discuss, please let us know. We are happy to make adjustments in advance and certainly happy to facilitate the discussion in any direction during the session itself.

Again, thank you for your partnership in this project. We sincerely hope for a continued and long relationship between Israeli and US professionals who wish to combat violence against women by supporting victims and holding offenders accountable.

See you Monday!

Vikki
