On March 3, 2021, Israel signed two key conventions in the field of private international law - the 2019 Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgment in Civil and Commercial Matters and the 2005 Convention on Choice of Court Agreements.

 

The signature constitutes an important step towards adopting a holistic legal framework for cross-border civil and commercial dispute resolution, consistent with international standards and with a view towards increasing legal certainty and supporting global trade.

 

Both treaties were signed by Mr. @Naor Gilon, Israel's Ambassador to the Netherlands, in a virtual ceremony during the annual meeting of the Council for General Affairs and Policy of The Hague Conference on Private International Law, in the "presence" of delegates from over 70 states.

 

Dr. Roy Shcondorf,  Deputy Attorney-General (International Law), emphasized that "the signing of the Conventions, together with the recent publication by the Ministry of Justice of draft bills on the adoption of the UNCITRAL Model Law for International Arbitration and the Singapore Convention on Mediation, demonstrate Israel's unequivocal commitment to provide an optimal legal environment to facilitate global trade during these challenging times".
