Dear UNCITRAL colleagues,
Although we are still not all meeting in person, as co-chairs of the Sustainable Drinking Group (SDG), we think it important to continue our work to develop the SDG so that when we meet next year in person (positive thinking), we will not have fallen behind in achieving our goals.
Which brings us to this year's theme -- the development of the actual sustainable drinking goals!
As many of you know, during the last several years, a tradition has emerged in the margins of UNCITRAL meetings to convene after a long day of hard work to socialize, get together and enjoy a drink. With reference to the UN vocabulary, these gatherings are called “SDG”: sustainable drinking group. The idea is simple: All are invited to join (this year via Zoom), and everyone brings their own drink.
This year we will meet on https://huji.zoom.us/j/7346623347 on Friday 16 July, 13:15-14:15 CET.
Order of Business: [tentative provisional preliminary non-paper agenda pending approval by capitals subject to revision]:
-- Opening of the SDG by co-chairs
-- Adoption of the agenda
-- Determination of the sustainable drinking goals for the SDG: tour de table with each participant invited to introduce themselves, their drink(s), and to propose a sustainable drinking goal. Inspiration for these goals may be taken from the following:

ttps-- Goals for drinking generally (e.g., friendship, happiness, changing minds, drinking, smalltalk, discovering new alcohols, etc.)
-- Goals or drinks related to one of the current working groups of UNCITRAL (i.e. ships, arbitration, SMEs, electronic commerce, Investor-State Dispute Settlement and insolvency).
-- Goals related to the work program, including future work, (trains, planes, multimodal transport documents, warehouse receipts, adjudication, digital economy including technology related disputes, COVID-19, stocktaking of online platforms for dispute resolution, ).
-- Goals related to technical assistance and exchange of best practices activities focusing on mixing drinks and combining beverages
-- Closing of session
Most importantly, we hope to drink to this being our last virtual session! 🙂
Please let us know if you plan to attend so we can keep an eye on the "door" of the zoom room! And feel free to extend the invitation to others at the Commission whom we may have missed in the first round of invitations. Depending on who shows up for the Commission discussions during the third week, the invite list may well grow!
