Dear Hila:

My visa person has informed me that I need an official letter of invitation for my visa application, although I did provide her with your gracious email invitation below. Is an actual letter necessary, and if so would it be possible to obtain an email PDF copy of one? Apologies for any inconvenience. (I have copied my secretary Barbara on this email as she is working with our visa office.)

Many thanks,

Kathryn

Dear Hila and Dana,

Many thanks for your email (and your phone call just now). I have booked my flight and will be arriving on Monday June 4th. Our Embassy is making my hotel reservations and I will be staying in the Sheraton hotel in Tel Aviv. I am also planning on arranging a side meeting with our AmCham on the FCPA as well as conducting in house training for our foreign service personnel on corruption at the Embassy, likely on June 5.th  Thank you very much for your kind offer but my office can cover my expenses for the trip.

I have already begun planning my remarks for the conference and am getting input from others here, both in the private sector and in the government. I appreciate Dana outlining the program for me in more detail during our conversation just now, and please don’t hesitate to let me know if there are more specific questions you’d like me to focus on in my presentation as the agenda develops.

I am very much looking forward to the conference on June 6th and visiting Israel. On a more personal note, I will be accompanied by my mother, who has always wanted to come to Israel and visit Jerusalem, which we will do together the latter part of the week.

Best regards,

Kathryn

Subject: FW: Invitation to participate as a keynote speaker in a conference in Israel

Dear Kathryn,

I am writing to you with regards to our invitation to you to participate in the Conference on "Corporate Social Responsibility and the Combat against Bribery of Foreign Public Officials", in Tel Aviv, Israel. Due to various internal reasons we are trying to postpone the conference and are trying to schedule it during the first week of June (5 or 6 of June). Therefore we would like to cordially renew our invitation for you to be one of the keynote speakers at this conference. We would highly appreciate your re-consideration of the matter.

It should be noted that in our interaction with the private sector we heard that the companies and businessmen are mainly interested in hearing about and learning from the experience of other countries and are keen to learn about how the prohibition of foreign bribery is being dealt with in practice- with regards to investigations, prosecutions and sanctioning, and enforcement in general. Furthermore they would like to learn about the work being done in other countries with the private sector in order to strengthen and promote the awareness and involvement of the private sector in prevention of foreign bribery (i.e. with regards to compliance programs, etc.). Therefore, we see great benefit for the Israeli private sector to hear from a representative from the US that deals with the offence of foreign bribery.

I'm not sure if was clear from our previews email that the invitation is naturally at our expense.

We look forward to your response.

Best regards,

Hila
