In late 2009, the Director of Israel's Ministry of Justice approached the President of Eurojust in order to start the negotiation process for establishing a cooperation agreement. In 2009 and 2010, following an exchange of correspondence between our office and the organization, an Israeli delegation visited Eurojust for the purpose of commencing negotiations. Following these preliminary talks between Israel and Eurojust, IL received a questionnaire concerning data protection, the completion of which is a preliminary condition of the EU to commencing negotiations. Israel submitted its reply to the questionnaire in 2012 after which the Council gave its approval in principal to begin negotiations on the cooperation agreement. The Department of International Affairs of the State Attorney's Office, Israel's national point of contact for advancing the cooperation with Eurojust, looks forward to commencing negotiations regarding the cooperation agreement in the near future.
