This message is to inform the Egmont community that the Financial Intelligence Unit of Trinidad and Tobago (“the FIUTT”) has expanded its access to information in keeping with FATF Rec. 29. 3(b) as the FIUTT now has access to taxpayer information.
The Income Tax (amendment) Act, No. 18 of 2018 impacts on the widest possible range of access to the FIUTT:
New subsection 4(6)(a) imposes a duty on a person having an official duty or being employed in the administration of the Act to provide taxpayer information to the Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit of Trinidad and Tobago (hereinafter referred to as the “FIU”) solely for the purpose of enabling the FIU to do its analysis under the Financial Intelligence Unit of Trinidad and Tobago Act.
FIUTT reaffirms its commitment to addressing Trinidad and Tobago’s AML/CFT deficiencies and assisting its international partners in their efforts towards securing their financial system.
