Dear Members of the IEWG,

We hope this message finds you well.

As you are already aware, IEWG is in the process of selecting a new Working Group Chair, following the vacancy created by the departure of Mr. Marko STOLLE, from his position in FIU Germany. The newly selected Chair of IEWG will have a two-year term (in accordance with the Egmont Charter - Section 6.5-C), until the Egmont Group Plenary in July 2023.

Consistent with the Voting Rules for the Election of the Working group Chair and Vice Chairs (hereinafter the Procedure), the Executive Secretary launched a call for nominations on January 10th, 2021 (attached) allowing IEWG regular members six weeks to submit written nominations (para. 6 of the Procedure). Within the deadline provided, the Executive Secretary received only one nomination from Ms. Sarah Paquet, the Director and Chief Executive Officer, FIU of Canada.

To enable members within the IEWG to make an informed decision (para. 13 of the Procedure) the nominee kindly prepared a PowerPoint of intent stating how she intends to serve as IEWG Chair, and what she can bring and offer to the role (available attached).

According with the Procedure (para 14), the members of the working group should strive to reach consensus on the selection of the IEWG Chair (i.e. consensus is the rule). For this purpose, your views and any potential concerns or objections regarding the nomination of Ms. Sarah Paquet are welcomed before Wednesday, March 17th, 2021 (COB Ottawa time).

Please submit your feedback in reply to this communication. The nominating FIU was not included in this communication (para. 14 of the Procedure). As usual, non-responses will be interpreted as tacit agreement with the selection of Ms. Sarah Paquet as Chair of IEWG.

If based on the reactions received, the Executive Secretary concludes that the members of IEWG reached consensus on the selection of Ms. Sarah Paquet as Chair of IEWG, then the Egmont Group Secretariat will ensure that the name of the newly selected IEWG Chair is submitted to the Egmont Committee for endorsement (para 15 of the Procedure). If the Executive Secretary determines that consensus was not reached, an election process by secret ballot will be initiated (para. 16 of the Procedure). The nominating FIU will be entitled to participate in the voting process and the EGS will provide clear details about the procedure for conducting elections by secret ballot (paras. 17-30 of the Procedure).
