***Message sent on behalf of the Executive Secretary***

Dear Heads of FIU,

I hope this email finds you well.

As you are aware, on January 24th, 2020, Mr. Mariano Federici announced that he would be replaced as HoFIU Argentina, effective January 26th. On that same date, Mr. Mariano Federici was no longer Chair of the Egmont Group, leaving the position vacant.

Give the exceptional circumstances of this situation, the Egmont Committee decided to use its emergency decision-making powers conferred by paragraph 32 of the revised Internal Procedures of the Egmont Committee (attached), to appoint  Ms. Hennie Verbeek Kusters (Egmont Committee Vice Chair), to act as Interim Egmont Group Chair until the end of the upcoming Plenary in Oaxaca, Mexico. The Committee also tasked the Executive Secretary with launching a new selection process for the Chair of the Egmont Group after the meeting in Mauritius.

As required by para 32.a of the revised Internal Procedures of the Egmont Committee, this decision is presented to you for consultation. There is a one (1) week consultation period. If no responses are received before Tuesday, February 4th, 2020 (COB Ottawa), this will be interpreted as approval of the emergency decisions made by the Egmont Committee.

I would like to thank Mr. Mariano Federici for his dedication and achievements as the Egmont Group Chair. I also take this opportunity to thank Ms. Hennie Verbeek-Kusters for stepping in to act as Interim Egmont Group Chair until a new Chair is selected in Oaxaca.

Best regards,

Jérôme Beaumont

Executive Secretary of the Egmont Group
