Message sent on behalf Ms. Hennie Verbeek-Kusters, Chair of the Egmont Group and Chair of the Egmont Committee

Dear colleagues,

I hope this email finds you well. I would like to thank all HoFIU for their positive feedback and tacit approvals to the Memorandum submitted by the Egmont Committee. Taking into account that no opposition has been expressed, I conclude that we have consensus with the following recommendations established in the Memorandum:

  • Note the update on the implementation of the revised Trigger 3 of the Support and Compliance Process, including the short-term consultant’s final report, the new MERs referred to the Egmont Committee and the number of available experts for Trigger 3 reviews.
  • Note that the Egmont Committee, consistent with its mandate as stipulated in sections 6.3.A and 6.3.B.5 of the Egmont Charter, is having a strategic discussion about the practical implementation of the Support and Compliance Process, in order to determine if it is serving its purpose or it should be replaced by an alternative mechanism that would require fewer resources from the Egmont Group.
  • Suspend temporarily the implementation of the revised Trigger 3 under effectiveness, while keeping this trigger active for technical compliance, until the Egmont Committee concludes with the assessment on the practical implementation of the Support and Compliance Process.

Please be advised that the Interim Chair of the MSCWG will be informed about this decision, which will be taken into account during the current Trigger 3 preliminary reviews (closer reviews) that are underway in this working group. On the other hand, I encourage you to reach-out your respective regional representatives in case you have any contributions you would like to share in relation to the Egmont Committee’s strategic discussion on the practical implementation of the Support and Compliance Process.

All the best,

Hennie

Dear Heads of FIU,

We hope this email finds you well. Please find attached a Memorandum from the Egmont Committee (including 9 annexes), which presents an update on the implementation of revised Trigger 3 of the Support and Compliance Process (SCP). In this Memorandum the Egmont Committee conducts a thorough analysis of the situation recommends the Heads of FIU the following:

  1. Note the update on the implementation of the revised Trigger 3 of the SCP, including the short-term consultant’s final report, the new MERs referred to the EC and the number of available experts for Trigger 3 reviews.
  1. Note that the EC, consistent with its mandate as stipulated in sections 6.3.A and 6.3.B.5 of the Egmont Charter, is having a strategic discussion about the practical implementation of the SCP, in order to determine if it is serving its purpose or it should be replaced by an alternative mechanism that would require fewer resources from the Egmont Group.
  1. Suspend temporarily the implementation of the revised Trigger 3 under effectiveness, while keeping this trigger active for technical compliance, until the EC concludes with the assessment on the practical implementation of the SCP.

The Egmont Committee will appreciate your comments to this Memorandum by next 27 July (COB Ottawa). As always, no replies will be considered as tacit approvals to the above-mentioned recommendations.

Best,

Egmont Group Secretariat
