** Letter on behalf of the IEWG Chair**

Dear Heads of FIU,

We hope you are well and healthy!

Please find attached the report and its public bulletin resulting from the Information Exchange Working Group (IEWG) project on ML of Serious Tax Crimes: Enhancing FIUs' Detection Capacities and Fostering Information Exchange (together with the necessary Memorandum), which is undertaken as part of the work within the IEWG Stream 1 (Promotion, Support and Facilitation of Bilateral and Multilateral Exchange of Financial Intelligence and Strategic Information).

The report’s objectives are to explore the role of FIUs in the process of disrupting the laundering of the proceeds of serious tax crimes, to outline different practices presented by surveyed jurisdictions and the challenges they entail and to offer recommendations regarding how FIUs can make best use of financial information related to taxes through best practices and strengthening their capacities. The report also aims to improve domestic and international co-operation and increase the effectiveness of competent authorities to tackle these crimes.

Further to IEWG’s endorsement and the project team’s presentation at the July 2020 IEWG virtual meeting, this report and its public bulletin are being circulated for your out-of-session approval. You are therefore invited to provide your endorsement and/or comments by August 30th, 2020. As usual, a non-response will be considered as a tacit approval of the attached report and its public summary, together with their dissemination strategy.

Thank you very much for your consideration.

Kind regards,

The Egmont Group Secretariat
