I hope this message finds you well.

With regards to the next in-person Egmont Group (EG) meeting, planned initially for early 2022 in Dakar Senegal, the EG leadership received a letter from the Head of CENTIF, Senegal - Mrs. Ramatoulaye Gadio Agne dated July 16th, 2021, informing about the decision of the Senegalese Government to reorient their priorities for the next two years, in response to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Under these circumstances, we have been informed that regrettably Senegal will no longer be in a position to organize the Egmont Working Groups meeting in 2022. Despite these unfortunate circumstances, the Head of CENTIF Senegal expressed the willingness to reconsider this issue for 2023, should the pandemic situation in the country allow it.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ramatoulaye and the Senegalese authorities for their initial commitment to welcome the EG to their country and also for maintaining flexibility in reconsidering this issue in 2023, depending how the pandemic situation evolves.

In light of this situation, the Secretariat has started reaching out for identifying potential hosts for the next EG meetings. I encourage all HoFIU to contact the Executive Secretary, Mr. Jerome Beaumont (at Jerome.beaumont@egmontsecretariat.org) if interested in hosting an EG event.

In the meantime, the Secretariat will also reach out to the Regional Representatives to monitor international travel requirements and assess the potential attendance for the EG Working Groups and Regional Groups meetings in early 2022. The EGS will also explore the option of organizing a hybrid meeting to ensure the greatest possible event participation.

Considering the critical timelines for planning the next Egmont event regardless of the organization's approach, the EG leadership and Egmont Committee will continue monitoring the situation and will discuss in the early fall the best way forward.
