Dear Heads of FIU,
On 27 July 2018, the new “Department on Combating Economic Crimes at the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan” (FIU Uzbekistan), informed the Egmont Group Secretariat about recent changes implemented in the FIU. According to the attached letter, by Presidential Decree from 23 May 2018 the former FIU named “Department on Struggle Against Tax, Currency Crimes and Legalization of Criminal Income at the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan” has been reformed into what is now the new “Department on Combating Economic Crimes at the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, remaining as an independent specialized law enforcement agency at the Prosecutor General's Office.
Taking into consideration what is stipulated in the Addendum to the Membership Procedure, the above-mentioned situation required the work of an EC Sub-Committee formed by:
After reviewing the information provided in the attached letter and comparative chart with the before/after legislation governing the FIU of Uzbekistan, the EC Sub-Committee concluded that there are no fundamental changes that may affect its membership to the Egmont Group and its connection to the ESW.
The above-mentioned decision has been taken in accordance with Addendum to the “Egmont Group Membership Procedure” as read with the “Egmont Group Support and Compliance Process”.
