Dear Head of FIU / Egmont Member,
I hope this email finds you in good health. As you know, the Best Egmont Case Award (BECA) is always one of the highlights of the Egmont Plenary Meetings. Unfortunately, given the current worldwide state of emergency, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the 27th Plenary of the Egmont Group (Oaxaca, Mexico) has been postponed until July 2021.
However, the 2020 BECA Competition will be reformulated to adjust to the current exceptional circumstances. We have identified that, despite the fact that there will be no physical EG Plenary Meeting in July 2020, the continuity of the 2020 BECA Competition is significant and feasible.
Having said that, and taking into account the contingency measures taken by many FIUs in the world, due to the COVID-19 pandemic (e.g. reduction of human resources / hours of work that could lead to a delay in the presentation of the case), I would like to inform you that it has been decided to extend the deadline for the presentation of the cases until Friday, May 22, 2020.
Likewise, I would like to remind you that the BECA Competition provides a great opportunity to share and gain new insights from FIU successful experiences, knowledge, practices and expertise. In this manner, I would like to remind all FIUs to enter the best Money Laundering (ML) / Terrorist Financing (TF) cases through the Egmont Secure Web (ESW), by using the BECA template.
In addition, and if you consider it relevant, feel free to work in collaboration with other Egmont FIUs to submit joint cases as well! Finally, please find attached a copy of the original letter and the BECA Template, which explains all the steps to participate in the 2020 BECA Competition.
