**Letter to all Europe II members**

 

Dear Europe II members,

 

We trust you are well!

As you were informed during the last EUROPE II virtual meeting in March, the Egmont Committee selected as the main theme for the next two Egmont Group plenary meetings 2021-2021 the topic of "Implementation of a risk-based approach in FIU operations."

The Egmont Committee also agreed to address/deliver this theme through a series of interactive HoFIUs webinars during the week of July 05th – 09th. The following structure of the July session was also agreed upon:

  • Three HoFIUs webinars during the week of July 05th – 09th 2021.
  • One 1.5H webinar on July 6th and two 1.5H webinars on July 8th with one break (15 minutes) between the webinars.
  • Each webinar will cover one specific area of focus within the theme of RBA in FIU operations.

Content:

  • Webinar 1 – FIUs and the RBA: an environmental scan and implementation – The first webinar aims to touch upon the role of FIUs in the risk-based environment promoted by the FATF standards. It will also explore the pros and cons of taking an RBA approach for FIU operations.
  • Webinar 2 – Process and data protection – The purpose of the second webinar is to explore how automated processing of data can contribute to the successful application of the RBA and understand the limitations/challenges in identifying and assessing ML/TF/PF risks.
  • Webinar 3 – Making a difference – The third webinar aims to discuss how FIUs can produce financial intelligence that matters, coordinate risk mitigation with other competent authorities, and improve the capacity and capability of FIUs to deliver high-quality reports; to focus on quality and not quantity.

 

Each webinar will be moderated by one moderator and will include several presenters.

With the current email, we would like to kindly invite you to nominate moderators/presenters with experience to deliver presentations on each of the three topics mentioned above. A similar call for presenters will be sent to all other Egmont Group regions. If the EGS would receive more nominations than the actual needs to cover the topic, the EC Sub-Group (specifically created to support the subject) will facilitate the selection.

 

Please provide your nominations for moderators/presenters to the EGS by Friday, May 14th.
