Dear Heads of FIU,

As you are already aware, the online registration for 2020 Egmont Group Meetings has been open since October 25th, 2019. Please be mindful of following option dates proposed by the designated hotels and note that any un-allocated rooms will be released to the open market after the deadline. Given the peak tourist season in Mauritius in January, it could be difficult for delegates to secure accommodation near the meeting venue after the option dates.  In this regard, it is highly recommended that you book flights and hotels as early as possible.

Please use code EG-MAU/2020 when you book a room to benefit from the negotiated corporate rates.

In addition, the host will be offering transportation for delegates to and from the airport and hotel. Please provide your arrival date and time, hotel and departure date and time when you register for the 2020 Mauritius Working Group Meetings(http://www.cvent.com/d/xhq84n). Please also note that only countries that are listed in Appendix 1 of the GID require visas for Mauritius. For more information, please consult the following link: http://passport.govmu.org/English/Passport%20and%20Visa%20Requirement%20in%20Mauritius/Pages/Visa-Requirements-in-Mauritius.aspx

Finally, there are some GID updates regarding declarations of bearer negotiable instruments (p.5) and Bank and Currency (p.19), which are highlighted below. The revised GID is also attached for your reference.

DECLARATION OF BEARER NEGOTIABLE INSTRUMENTS (P.5)

The Mauritian legislation does not prohibit the transportation of currency or Bearer Negotiable Instruments by any traveler. However, any person entering or leaving Mauritius with currency or Bearer Negotiable Instruments or precious stones and metals including gold, diamond and jewelry or any goods of high value including work of arts exceeding MUR 500,000 (app. USD14,000) in value or its equivalent in foreign currency must declare the sum to Customs, by filling the Currency Declaration Form (available at the Customs counter ) wherein the origin and intended use of the sum declared must be stated, before proceeding with Immigration formalities. Please visit the website https://www.mra.mu/index.php/customs

BANKING AND CURRENCY (P.19)

Furthermore, the Mauritian legislation imposes a limitation of payment in cash, such that any person is not allowed to make or accept any payment in cash in excess of MUR500,000 (app. USD14,000) or its equivalent in foreign currencies.

Thank you very much and we look forward to seeing you in Mauritius.

 Warm regards,

Egmont Group Secretariat
