**Letter to all IEWG members**
Dear IEWG members,
Allow us to start by thanking all FIUs that already contributed to the "Asset Recovery - the Role of FIUs" project and replied to the two information collection questionnaires.
Unfortunately, our analysis is showing that the replies received are not sufficient to guarantee the successful completion of the project in accordance with the internal quality standards set by the IEWG. It is our strong understanding that this report should give solid added value for the members to understand the role of FIUs in the asset recovery process and improve their effectiveness by considering and implementing some of the best practices that will be included in the final report.
Therefore, we would like to extend our call for information collection.
FIUs are kindly requested to complete the two attached questionnaires which having the following content:
Please bear in mind that in jurisdictions where there are no AROs established, the relevant questions related to FIU-ARO cooperation should not be completed.
The project team would be grateful if FIUs can return back (to nedko.krumov@egmont.org) the completed questionnaires by Friday, August 14th, 2020.
While we would very much appreciate all additional replies, we would like to
specifically invite big FIUs to contribute as their input is so far insufficient.
Thank you very much.
Kind regards,
IEWG project team
**Letter to all IEWG members**
Dear IEWG members,
We hope you are well and healthy!
If you remember, during the meeting in Mauritius (January 2020), IEWG decided to launch a new project on Asset Recovery - the Role of FIUs. This project was included in the IEWG's current Business Plan 2019-2020.
On behalf of the project team, we would like to present to your attention two tailor-made information collection questionnaires. The purpose of these questionnaires is to collect the necessary data which would allow the project team to prepare the appropriate analysis and conclusions in order to achieve the project objectives mentioned in the Concept Note.
This project is recognized to be very important for FIUs and for the Global AML/CFT community in general, as it reflects on one of the most important topics, namely how to improve FIUs' role in the asset recovery regime and achieve higher level of effectiveness in tracing and securing of illegally acquired funds. Therefore, members of the project team are number of FIUs, and the FATF. Also, the team is working in close cooperation with CARIN.
The two questionnaires are having the following content:
- Questionnaire 1 covers Section I (Tracing of criminal assets) and Section II (Suspension/freezing powers of FIUs)
- Questionnaire 2 covers Section III (Cooperation with Asset Recovery Offices (AROs) and other national bodies) and Section IV (Typologies).
Please bear in mind that in jurisdictions where there are no AROs established, the relevant questions related to FIU-ARO cooperation should not be completed.
The project team is aware that due to the current COVID-19 crisis, many FIUs are working with reduced capacity but it would be grateful if you can return back (to nedko.krumov@egmont.org) the completed questionnaires by Friday, June 19th, 2020.
Thank you very much for your cooperation.
Best regards,
EGS
