Dear Heads of FIUs,
I hope this email finds you well despite the current extraordinary circumstances.
As you know, in July (06 – 09 July), our organization will select our new Egmont Group Chair and two Egmont Group Vice Chairs.
According to the rules in place for the selection process of these positions, there has been a four‐week nomination period, (starting February 14th, 2020) and I have received nominations from:
- Mrs Hennie Verbeek-Kusters, HoFIU The Netherlands, for the position of Egmont Group Chair;
- Mrs. Xolisile Khanyile, HoFIU South Africa, for the position of Egmont Group Vice Chair and;
- Mr. Marko Stolle, Deputy HoFIU Germany, for the position of Egmont Vice Chair.
Consistent with the rules in place, I convened an Advisory Panel that reviewed these nominations and assessed the candidates’ eligibility, based on the selection criteria listed in the attached Terms of Reference and Selection Procedure for the Chair of the Egmont Group and the Terms of Reference and Selection Procedure for the Vice Chairs of the Egmont Group (Terms of Reference) respectively.
I am happy to inform you that the Advisory Panel determined that the three candidates are eligible for the positions they are applying for.
Please note that the next steps in the selection procedure are:
- The Advisory Panel will continue its work by interviewing the candidates to determine whether the three candidates’ qualifications meet the skills and experience criteria for the position of Egmont Group Chair and Vice Chairs (as listed in the Terms of Reference). At beginning of June (at the latest), the Advisory Panel will provide a written recommendation to the HoFIU, explaining the basis for its recommendation.
- In the meantime, the three candidates will share with the HoFIU, in writing and through a prerecorded video a presentation of their skills and experience, as well as their vision for the Egmont Group.
- Given the exceptional circumstances generated by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Egmont Committee decided that the topics initially scheduled for the HoFIU meeting in Oaxaca, Mexico (postponed), will be addressed through an out-of-session approval process (Egmont Group Charter – Section 6.1-A last paragraph and footnote). Starting June 5th, in accordance with the contingency planning email sent by the EG Chair to all HoFIU, the Egmont Group Secretariat will post a MEMORANDUM on the ESW seeking for the out-of-session HoFIU consensus on the recommendation of the Advisory Panel, as per the provisions of paragraph 20 & 21 of the Terms of Reference.
The full procedure for the selection of the Egmont Group Chair and Vice Chairs is available in the attached documents.
Best regards,
Jerome Beaumont
Executive Secretary
