As some of you may be aware, FinCEN is leading three important projects under the umbrella of the FATF HoFIU Forum, which aims to enhance FIUs’ capabilities and understanding in dealing with specific topics, which they might be facing in their operations.

These projects will be highly beneficial for FIUs as they will focus on three very important areas: Virtual Assets, Proliferation Financing and Strategic Analysis. They will increase FIUs’ knowledge and will help FIUs to more effectively target financial crimes and terrorism financing through the usage of instruments and tools elaborated within the framework of the projects.

Therefore, I am pleased to bring to your attention the email below, sent on behalf of the projects leads.

Dear Colleagues,

I am sending you this reminder about the upcoming deadline for your input to the (reattached) initial request for input in support of the FATF Heads of FIU Forum project on analysis of virtual asset-related activities and entities by FIUs.

Thank you to those that have been able to provide some initial input to this project.  FinCEN is working to incorporate that information into a first draft of the paper for full FIU Forum member discussion at the meeting next month.  We expect to have that first draft, reflecting the input received, sent to all FATF Heads of FIU Forum members around 1 February 2019.

Please send your comments and responses to carole.house@fincen.gov, erik.kiefel@fincen.gov, and sergy.sarakvashin@egmontsecretariat.org by no later than 18 January 2019.
