Dear Heads of FIU,
dear Members of the Egmont Group,
dear Colleagues,

I hope that you and your families had a good and smooth start into the New Year. I wish you all the best for 2021, especially health and success in all your endeavours.

Although the year has just started, I have to update you on some recent developments within the German FIU, which will have an impact on my role within the Egmont Group as well.

As some of you already know, my experience and services are urgently required for a project of highest priority within the Customs Administration. Therefore, it was concluded that I will be re-assigned to take-up a new challenge in a very different area of responsibility within our public administration, but outside the German FIU, starting in February 2021. Therefore, with the end of the IEWG virtual meeting scheduled from the 1st to the 4th of February, my role as Vice-Chair of the Egmont Group and as Chair of the IEWG will end.

My aspiration has always been to fulfil my obligations with dedication and commitment. Likewise, I very much looked forward to serve the Egmont Group for my whole tenure as Vice-Chair and as Chair of the IEWG and to support the accomplishment of our joint strategic objectives. I do deeply regret the necessity to leave the FIU and the Egmont community before my scheduled terms end.

Please be assured that I remain fully committed to my duties as Vice-Chair of the Egmont Group as well as Chair of the IEWG until the end of the upcoming IEWG meeting, which also means that it is too early to say good-bye.

During my last weeks at the German FIU and as member of the Egmont Committee, I will focus on ensuring a thorough handover of the tasks I took up. This includes especially the knowledge management related to all my responsibilities as Vice-Chair and within the Egmont Committee. In this regard, I am cooperating intensely with the key stakeholders on all relevant topics.

With the same dedication and focus I intend to use my last weeks as IEWG Chair. To ensure that the work of the IEWG is not affected negatively by this development, I am in close contact with the IEWG Vice-Chairs and the EGS regarding my handover. In addition, the EGS will open the call for candidates for the election of a new Chair of the IEWG shortly. Last but not least, my team and I are working very hard to prepare the upcoming IEWG meeting with the goal to achieve tangible progress for the ongoing projects of the group.

I hope to see many of you in the virtual IEWG meeting and look forward to very active and fruitful discussions.
