Dear Colleagues,
We hope this email finds you well and in good health.
2020 was a strange year, but we, as a community, have adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic by optimizing learning and working through technology and other solutions. To ensure FIU delegates' safety when travelling to future Egmont meetings, we have been closely monitoring global travel measures as the pandemic evolves. To determine the best way forward for the upcoming Intersessional EC Meeting and the 27th Egmont Group Plenary, we have exchanged views with the Egmont Committee and the planned Plenary host, FIU Mexico. During the January EC meeting, the EC went through the advantages and disadvantages of various meeting options and determined that the 2021 Egmont Committee Intersessional Meeting in May and the 27th Egmont Plenary, scheduled for July 2021, will be held through virtual means. We are working with FIU Mexico to confirm their commitment to hosting an EG event in 2023.
We are all looking forward to resuming our meetings in “the normal way” being in one room, having meetings not only in but also outside of the meeting rooms. With you, we had never expected to be in this situation in 2021, but we believe that, for now, this is the only option. We truly regret it but keep our fingers crossed the situation will be better in the next calendar year.
Given the HoFIU Webinars and Operational Training Webinars' successful organization and the lessons learned during the COVID-19 in 2020, the EGS now has experience in managing relevant work streams and virtual webinars and meetings. We will provide further details shortly and count on your active participation.
